Cedar Point opens in a week (05/05/18) and they've made improvements to their app, and one detail alone makes this app invaluable. The Roller Coaster capital's official app has maps of the park, it'll show you the route to take from one ride to another, check wait times, and take advantage of online coupons and specials. But the best feature: is the car locator! Plot your location on the app when you get out of your car, and at the end of the day, it'll lead you right back.
There's also plenty of information about the park and its amenities. You can even store your season pass on the app, so you always have it with you.
Wednesday, April 17th is Superman Day in the City of Cleveland, so to celebrate, check out the Superman Homepage (and download the app). The go-to source for all things Superman.
The latest news about upcoming comics, movies, and TV shows; interviews with those in-the-know; and podcasts related to the Man of Steel.
** its actually a pretty good source for information on all DC comic characters
Sometimes you need a break from social media. The negativity, the political bickering, the surveys...it becomes overwhelming. Take a few minutes away and visit this website: EyeBleach.me.
Its not much more than a slideshow of kitten pictures.
A nice way to “cleanse the palate” from time to time.
...and its free.
Next Thursday, ESPN rolls out it's new subscription streaming app, ESPN+. For $4.99 a month, you'll get live sporting events, original shows and on-demand programming. Unfortunately, the “live sporting events” is limited to “not the games you want”. If its actually on ESPN, you won't see it (no Monday Night Football, no NBA, No Sunday Night Baseball; no Around the Horn, or Sports Center either). You DO, however, have access to hundreds of regular season soccer games, tennis matches, rugby and cricket matches, boxing and the PGA.
That said you do get one free MLB and NHL game per day (regular season only) and you'll have access to thousands of live college sports including football and basketball games, but also soccer, track & field, gymnastics and more.
** if you have a cable/dish subscription, you'll still be able to watch the NBA and Pardon the Interruption on the regular ESPN app (for free).
Ever need to scan a document but don't have a scanner, so you take a picture and send it? It might work, in a pinch, but it isn't clear, there might be a glare, and you certainly can't edit it. The next time you need to send a receipt, a school permission form, class notes or notes on a white board, a time-card or mileage report...use Adobe Scan. A free app that uses your phone's camera to scan documents and convert them to a pdf. It also has OCR (optical character recognition) which means the app recognizes letters and words and creates an editable document.
We all have far too many pictures on our phones. Those pictures we want to keep, just sit on the phone until we upload them to Facebook, send them to Walgreens to be printed, or email them to ourselves so we can save them on a CD-Rom or Memory Stick from our computer.
NOW, there's an app that lets you wirelessly transfer the pictures on your phone, right to your Windows PC without having to plug-in anything.
It's called “Photos Companion”.
Add this app to your phone and, as long as your phone and your computer are on the same wifi network, you can transfer your entire photo collection with the tap of your screen.
(obviously, it isn't in the blink of an eye, it takes time to transfer 1,000 photos from one place to another, but once you've set the wheels in motion, you can put down your phone and go to the fridge for a drink).
**there are some settings in Windows 10 that need to be taken care of, but the app will walk you through it.
There's a new anti-bullying app that let's students anonymously report bullies. Its called STOPit.
Schools or districts who opt to participate in the program are assigned a local code so administrators don't have to weed through reports from across the country to find ones that apply locally.
Students with the app are able to communicate with faculty and staff totally anonymously to report bullying, or other problems around the school, or to ask for help and advice.
STOPit is a free app for iphone and android. Talk to your school district or the principal to recommend implementing it at your kids' school. Lakewood High School rolled it out earlier this month and have already had several tips.

This is the time of year where the weather can change from minute to minute. Today, almost every app on the market does the same thing, you get the forecast, the radar, and the hour-by-hour, for any given zip code. For the layperson, the difference is in the presentation and the navigation.
Everyone has a favorite and they swear by it...but the truth is, they're all basically the same.
Some of the popular free apps are AccuWeather, The Weather Channel, Weather Bug, and Weather Underground. Then there's the one you've probably seen screenshots from on social media...the one that hurls insults at you, based on the [bleeping] weather. That app is called What the Forecast.
It's also worth noting that all the local TV stations have their own app with forecasts...the added advantage here is they come with local news and sports stories.
When you want to be informed about the weather, get an app. Any app.

Last week, Google updated the Chrome Browser to include a feature that can help make your late night or at-work web surfing less terrifying.
Have you ever visited a website that, at first, seems pleasant enough...but all of a sudden, a video starts playing automatically and you can't figure out where the video is to turn it off? That's a thing of the past with this new Chrome Browser update.
When a video auto-plays, right click on the tab at the top of the browser and select “mute site”. Next time you visit, the video will play, but it won't make noise unless you physically un-mute it.
** To see if you have the most recent version of Chrome, go into settings (the three verticle dots on the right), then click the three horizontal lines to the top left of the screen. At the bottom of that menu is “about google”. Click there to update if necessary.
For the time being, you can right click on the tab and select “mute tab” to hush the video...but the browser won't remember this the next time you're online.
If you're a fan of going to the movies but not a fan of the cost of tickets...this is for you! Think of it like Netflix for the movie theater! For about $10 a month, you get to see any movie you want, whenever you want, wherever you want, as often as you want! Unlimited movies, valid at any theater*.
There are a couple catches to be aware of.
--There is another, similar subscription service, offered by Cinemark Cinemas. Its called Movie Club, and for $9 a month, you get to see ONE movie a month AND get 20% OFF at the concession stand. If you don't see a movie this month, it rolls to the next month, and this app does allow for advanced, online ticket sales.
*double check with your local theater to make sure they'll accept MoviePass and Cinemark Movie Club
