Plan and then act
Think, but don’t overthink. Consider, but don’t consider so much that you fail to take action.
Plan, prepare and strategize, but don’t stop there. Do what you have planned.
It’s not enough to think you should do it, or hope to do it, or make elaborate plans for doing it. Go beyond mere planning, take the first step, and the next step and the next, until the job is done.
Thinking things through is great, up to a point. After a certain point, thinking becomes a substitute for action or even worse, an excuse for not taking action.
Though you may be highly skilled at anticipating what will happen, you never know for sure until you actually do it. So give some thought to it, then do it.
Yes, it’s fun to make big plans. Never forget, though, what’s even more fun is to see those plans come to life through your actions.© 2015 Ralph S. Marston, Jr.
Many people come to visit Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine at 21281 Chardon Rd. and everyone is welcome. Did anyone ever wonder who it is who makes the Shrine available to the public? The people who both live at the Shrine and allow the public to visit and worship here are the Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity. This group of women who pray for all who come here belong to a Catholic Order of Women Religious that was founded in 1762 in Italy. The Sisters first came to the United States in 1920 as missionaries to teach children. They established and staffed schools so that children could learn not only the normal curriculum, but also learn about God. The most important work of the Sisters was to become an extension of the family to help these young people. Eventually the Sisters needed a place to call home so they settled at the Shrine. Today the Sisters still teach children and bring people of all ages to the Lord especially at the Shrine. Do come and visit the Sisters and join them in their work.
Your unique purpose
If you’re not motivated enough to take action, you’re not motivated enough. If you’re not inspired enough to get up and get busy, find yourself some more inspiration.
There’s something that will compel you to jump up each morning and get things done. There’s some dream, some goal, some desire, something you want to do with life, that will push you to take whatever action must be taken.
The easy choice is to deny that you have a driving purpose. The easy choice is to pretend that life is conspiring to prevent you from following your dreams.
But that easy choice brings regret rather than fulfillment. You, and your unique purpose, deserve more.
You deserve to feel the passion that comes from investing yourself in what you care about. You deserve to experience the ups and downs, the frustrations and satisfactions of your own focused efforts and the fruits of those efforts.
So reach deep inside, and admit to yourself what you care about the most, and what you really, truly want to do with this day. Then stand up right now and go for it.© 2015 Ralph S. Marston, Jr.
Lord of the harvest inspire young women and men to say yes to your invitation to serve you. Help these young people to recognize that following your call will change the world. Bless all that give of themselves for others. We ask this as we ask all things in God’s name. Amen

What you allow yourself
Everything you’ve achieved is what you’ve allowed yourself to achieve. What will you allow yourself to achieve today?
All the actions you’ve taken are based on what you expect yourself to do. What will you allow yourself to expect today?
You have the tools to make a difference in life. What tools will you allow yourself to utilize today?
You can allow the excuses to hold you back, or you can allow the possibilities to propel you forward. You can allow yourself to waste precious time or you can allow yourself to enjoy spending time in productive, creative effort.
Each day in your past has been lived the way you allowed yourself to live it. You now can allow yourself to live today in such a way that you’ll look back on it with satisfaction, and with no regrets.
Through all its ups and downs, life ultimately proceeds in the way you allow. Allow yourself to live today in the most positive, honest and fulfilling way you can imagine.© 2015 Ralph S. Marston, Jr.
O holy, patient, and loving God, in this season of grace-filled longing, we await the coming of your Son and our Savior. Many packages, gleaming and bright, will come our way. Help us to know that the one gift that will last will come from you alone. Bless all of us and help us to celebrate your birth. Amen
Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, bless his name; announce his salvation day after day. Tell God’s glory among the nations; among all peoples, God’s marvelous deeds. Ps. 96: 1-3
Everyone is getting ready for Christmas and that is good, but maybe folks need to be reminded that getting ready for Christmas is called Advent. Remembering about Advent helps us to focus in on the fact that getting ready for Christmas should include the spiritual side as well as the material. How about doing a good deed for someone else? What about visiting that person who can’t get out or is at a nursing home? Have you ever prayed during Advent by using an Advent Wreath or setting up not just a Christmas tree, but a Jesse Tree or using an Advent calendar? An Advent Wreath has four candles which represent the four weeks before Christmas. A candle is lit each week reminding us to focus on the light of Christ coming at Christmas. A Jesse Tree is decorated with ornaments representing the ancestors of Jesus, and an Advent calendar opens a door for each day before Christmas.
You are all welcome at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine. While the gift shop is closed on Thanksgiving Day you are welcome to join us in giving thanks by attending the 8:00 AM Mass on November 26, 2015 and the French Toast Breakfast on Sunday, December 6, 2015 after the 8:00 AM Mass until 11:30 AM. Tickets are $5.00 for the breakfast.
O bountiful God, you have blessed us in ways that we cannot even begin to number. We are aware that we take so much for granted. Be with us, members of your family, faithful followers of your Word. Bless the food that we share, bless our families and friends and remember those who go without: the poor, abandoned, lonely and forgotten. Help us to be a beacon of your light to them. Amen
