Live it well

by Ralph Marston

Live to experience, not to impress. Live to give, not to need.

Live to wonder, to learn, to teach. Live to accept, improve, create, not to complain.

Live to make a positive difference wherever you go, not to get by with the least you can offer. Live with gratitude for each moment, enjoying all the beauty and making full use of the abundance.

Live with enthusiastic energy, with caring and purpose. Live with acceptance, ambition, generosity and kindness.

Live with the highest expectations. Live such that you’ll have no regrets.

This is a whole, unique day you have the privilege to live. Live it with love, with authenticity, and live it well.

Positive example

by Ralph Marston
Don’t let someone else’s negativity become yours. These moments that are your life are too valuable to waste on that.

When another person is rude, thoughtless, disrespectful or worse, don’t react by sinking to that level yourself. Instead, let it motivate you to be even more understanding, thoughtful, and kind.

Reflecting negativity back at others does not teach them a lesson. A far more influential choice is to serve as a positive example.

Certainly you don’t want to allow others to take advantage of you. But neither do you want them to turn you against your highest, treasured values.

The best way to win is not by fighting. The best way to win is by being so strong, so positively purposeful that a fight never starts in the first place.

The petty negativity of others does not have to get to you. Because you can choose, in a loving, generous, amiable way, to live beyond it.

December 19, 2016

One of my favorite Christmas childhood memories is sitting under the tree in our dimly lit front room with the Christmas tree lights on reflected in the ornaments. If you could, remember the old large light bulbs of the basic red, green, blue and white. Their light reflected so brightly in the multi-colored glass ornaments. You had to be careful not to bump up against the ornaments because they were very fragile. The tree was always real so that the scent of pine pervaded the area. We always had a manger scene under the tree and would count down the days when we would put the figure of the baby Jesus there to make the scene complete. It was so quiet and for a child magical. Perhaps you have a memory like this one too.
As an adult when one reminisces we realize that these memories were really God’s teachable moments for us. For example, with the memory above, if you think about it, we are the lights. We reflect the light of the Lord within us to the rest of those that we meet, in this case the ornaments. The font of this light is the baby Jesus that we find in the manger. We can burn brightly or we can burn out like a spent bulb. With the old bulbs when one burnt out we had to check every bulb to see which one burnt out. It was a taxing job, but if we are to be the light of the world for Christ then we need to help our fellow lights and personally help their lights to shine too. After Christmas is over we put the decorations away, yes, the lights, the ornaments and even the figure of baby Jesus, but our light is meant to shine for all to see after Christmas. Keep your light shining and help someone else to shine too.

Bible Vs.: Jn. 1:5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Matt. 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Prayer: Lord, maker of the universe, help me to shine your light on all people. Let me praise you in the world so that others may begin to praise you too. Help me to live out the spirit of Christmas throughout the whole year so that all may be prepared to receive your Son.

Spotlight: Come and visit Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, 21281 Chardon Rd., Euclid, Ohio 44117 where we try to see others in the light of Christ all year round. Come to Mass here, come pray and come to allow your light to shine as well. Come and visit our gift shop too so that you can purchase a religious book, medal, rosary, statue, to help you find the light of Christ.

December Faith Post

Faith Page Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine

During the Christmas season commercials and Madison Ave. urges consumers to use their shopping days to buy a new wardrobe or buy products to make them look better, like items that might make our teeth brighter. This continues after Christmas with so called New Year’s resolutions. The most common one, of course, is to lose weight. While that is a healthy resolution, the media would tell us that we need to lose weight to be attractive and beautiful. The whole idea is to change into what others perceive as beauty.

The thing is what is our idea of beauty? If we buy into what the media tells us, then we will be disappointed. We can never achieve their idea of beauty for this year. Most certainly that idea will change next year depending on new products. One size does not fit all. It is a fact that if a person is not born with thick voluminous hair, a bottle of special shampoo will not give what you were not born with.

Perhaps we need to see with the eyes of God. What does God consider to be beautiful? The Lord looks into the heart. The Lord sees our spirit. It is a fact that most people do not have the physical attributes that advertising agencies would lead us to believe are essential to happiness. Happiness is using the gifts that God gives for the betterment of ourselves and others. We have a beautiful spirit, we need to concentrate on letting it shine. Then our true beauty will be there for all to see, not the beauty that is the effect of artificial means. Take a look inside. Let others see your real beauty.

Scripture: Ps. 139:14 “I praise you, for I am wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works.”

1 Samuel 7 “Do not look on his appearance… for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Prayer: O, Lord let me see as you see. Let me see through your eyes. Help me to see my true beauty and the beauty of those around me. Let me see myself and others as you see us. Help my heart to be one with yours so that it will reflect your perfect beauty in this world. Amen

Spotlight: A great place to find your inner beauty is Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, 21281 Chardon Rd., Euclid, Ohio 44117. It is a place of prayer that fosters your conversation with God. A quiet place to see how the Lord sees you. It is a place to see all of us to see each other as God sees us. Come and attend our Lourdes novena from February 3rd up to and including February 11th. Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM with Mass following. Also, come to our Sunday, February 5th French Toast Breakfast held from after the 8:00 AM Mass until 11:30 AM.

The magic of generosity

by Ralph Marston

Do you want to immediately add richness to your life? Do it with generosity.

No one is going to stop you or disparage you when you live and act with sincere generosity toward others. Generosity gives you free rein to make a positive and meaningful difference.

You don’t need money or material wealth to be generous. You can be generous with your time, your attention, your opinion, your knowledge and expertise.

Today you’ll have opportunities to give comfort, encouragement, joy, reassurance, assistance and wisdom. Generously embrace those opportunities, and transform them into living goodness.

Generosity gives you the power to be a positive force in the world. Feel that power, and lovingly put it to use.

One act of generosity enriches the lives of at least two people, and often many, many more. Spread the magic of your own generosity everywhere you go.

Air of possibility

by Ralph Marston

Let each failure lead you toward success. Let each weakness propel you into strength.

From every disappointment, gather more determination. Seize the opportunity when things go wrong to learn how you can do it right.

Find new wisdom, understanding, and value in those who disagree with you. Discover what’s truly meaningful to you each time you feel frustration.

Take what others would discard and turn it into gold. Step out into a gray, dreary day and make it the brightest, most successful one yet.

Remind yourself over and over again that what matters is never what you’ve been dealt. You can handle any turn of events when you’re willing to give your best.

Whatever comes your way today is loaded with good fortune. Breathe in the sweet, fresh air of possibility, and do the work to make that fortune yours.

Actual priorities

by Ralph Marston

Your priorities are not what you say they are, or what you merely think they should be. Your priorities are what you actually do.

There are only so many hours in each day. Your priorities are demonstrated by the way you invest that time.

Are your actual priorities in line with your imagined or desired priorities? If not, you have the power, the opportunity, and a compelling reason to make a change.

Be relentlessly honest with yourself and ask yourself this question. Are you spending the moments of this day, of every day, supporting and expanding what’s most important to you?

Fulfillment is more than just giving lip service to what you care about. You have the chance, with each decision, with each moment, to create meaningful, lasting substance.

This is your life, and this is your day to focus strengths, skills and resources on all you love. Make it your actual, living priority to do so.
