Positive options

by Ralph Marston
Instead of worrying about the worst that could happen, accept that it could indeed happen. Then put positive energy into making sure it doesn’t, or positioning yourself to successfully deal with things if it does.

Sure, you have perfectly valid concerns about the future. But don’t let those concerns prevent you from taking action.

Now is not the time to panic or give up. Now is when you can work to give yourself positive options.

The sooner you accept that there could eventually be a problem, the more power you have in dealing with it. You can strengthen yourself, or get out of the way, or implement countless other strategies to ensure a positive future.

Worrying, complaining, feeling sad or sorry for yourself won’t do you any good. Choose instead to be realistic, putting thought, energy and action into creating the best outcome.

Focus on the good things you can do right now, to prepare, to grow stronger, to prosper. Face the future with courage and with the commitment to create positive options no matter what may come.

Let go of anger

by Ralph Marston
In today’s world, there’s no shortage of things to make you angry. But is angry really the way you want to be?

Anger certainly grabs your attention, heightening your awareness, giving a burst of energy. Yet once that happens, anger has nothing more to offer.

Maintaining anger will drain your energy. And what you get in return is nothing of any value.

Be angry if you must, then quickly let the anger go. Free yourself to respond in a way that’s beneficial and effective.

Don’t let yourself be trapped by anger and forced into a destructive reaction. Step away from the desire for revenge or punishment, and find a positive response.

Focus on the good you can do, on the positive difference you can make. Leave anger behind as you move forward with the commitment to make things better.

Have you ever noticed doors? Yes, doors. We walk, run, tiptoe, saunter through all different kinds of doors. Do we ever think about what is on the other side of the door? How do we walk through the office door of the doctor? Will it be different if we are the patient or the care giver? How does a student approach the door of the classroom? How do we walk through the grocery store door? It even opens for us. What about the theater door? Usually, our knowledge of what is on the other side of the door determines our attitude and our approach. Pope Francis declared this year the year of Mercy and a year of jubilee. He has declared that every diocese should have a dedicated Door of Mercy. So during this year, if one should walk through this door and pray certain prayers, they will receive a special blessing of mercy. How would you walk through this door? Who is waiting on the other side? In the case of the Door of Mercy, Jesus is waiting to spend some time with you.

Bible Vs. “Ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find, KNOCK, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matt. 7: 7-8

Prayer: Lord Jesus, hold us by the hand and guide us to walk through the right doors. Lord, guide us to your Door of Mercy. Help us to do your will and to share your message with other.

Local Spotlight: Come through the Holy Door of the Year of Mercy in the Diocese of Cleveland at Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine in Euclid, and St. John Cathedral in downtown Cleveland. At Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, we will have the novena Assumption August 7th through August 15th. Come and pray with us. We will have the rosary at 7:00 PM followed by Mass.

Active participation

by Ralph Marston
Don’t let this be a time you look back on with regret for not doing more. Make this a day you recall with satisfaction for all you were able to do.

Even if you don’t particularly feel like making the effort, you can make the effort nonetheless. Even if a dozen obstacles stand in your way, you can step forward and make progress.

Fill the moments with effective action, not lame excuses. Today will only be available to you today, so use it while you can.

Demonstrate your gratitude for the life you treasure by doing something valuable with it. Express your love for all you care about by offering your active support.

You are here right now with knowledge, skills, resources, energy, and a desire to matter. Give yourself and your world something to show for it all.

Your future begins in this moment. Fill it with meaningful richness through your active participation.

Thankful no matter what

by Ralph Marston
Whatever you are thankful for gains value from your thankfulness. Whatever you appreciate becomes more useful and accessible by virtue of your appreciation.

You get much more from life when you appreciate what you already have. That’s true for relationships, resources, skills, situations and experiences.

The circumstances hardest to appreciate are where appreciation can make the greatest positive difference. Find a way to appreciate, and you find your way to new value.

Goodness comes into your life in countless forms. Gratitude takes you to the heart of goodness, no matter how it appears on the outside.

It’s easy to be thankful for the pleasant things, and certainly a good idea to do so. Yet it is even more empowering and transformative to be thankful for all the other things.

Find a way to be thankful, no matter what. You’ll find new value each time you do.

Doing great

by Ralph Marston

You’re making progress. Now you can make more.

You’ve done some things right and some things wrong. Now you can learn from them all, and apply that experience to move forward.

You know how good it feels to stay focused on a goal, and to make a difference. Today you can earn yourself some more of that good feeling.

With your efforts, you’ve survived every challenge, and those efforts have made you strong. Now you can become even stronger.

Though you have felt fear, you have not let that fear stop you. You’ve shown yourself how much courage you have, and now you can put that courage to new use.

Through the ups and downs, setbacks and victories, pains and joys, you’ve succeeded in making your way here. You’re doing great, so keep going.

Some little something

by Ralph Marston

Can you bring yourself to do one small thing that makes a positive difference? Then you can change the reality of life for the better.

Can you find it in yourself to smile for just a moment? Then you can feel a little better about everything.

Can you offer a few encouraging words to another? Then you can make the world a little brighter.

Even when you’re facing life’s most oppressive challenges, there’s something you can do to make a little improvement. And when you’ve made a little improvement, you can make a little more.

Even when life dishes out nothing but unfairness, pain and disappointment, you have an advantage. There’s some little something you can do, right now, to make it a little better.

Do that some little something, and feel your own positive power. Begin to improve reality in some small way, and discover for yourself that you never have to stop.
