December Faith Post

Faith Page Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine

During the Christmas season commercials and Madison Ave. urges consumers to use their shopping days to buy a new wardrobe or buy products to make them look better, like items that might make our teeth brighter. This continues after Christmas with so called New Year’s resolutions. The most common one, of course, is to lose weight. While that is a healthy resolution, the media would tell us that we need to lose weight to be attractive and beautiful. The whole idea is to change into what others perceive as beauty.

The thing is what is our idea of beauty? If we buy into what the media tells us, then we will be disappointed. We can never achieve their idea of beauty for this year. Most certainly that idea will change next year depending on new products. One size does not fit all. It is a fact that if a person is not born with thick voluminous hair, a bottle of special shampoo will not give what you were not born with.

Perhaps we need to see with the eyes of God. What does God consider to be beautiful? The Lord looks into the heart. The Lord sees our spirit. It is a fact that most people do not have the physical attributes that advertising agencies would lead us to believe are essential to happiness. Happiness is using the gifts that God gives for the betterment of ourselves and others. We have a beautiful spirit, we need to concentrate on letting it shine. Then our true beauty will be there for all to see, not the beauty that is the effect of artificial means. Take a look inside. Let others see your real beauty.

Scripture: Ps. 139:14 “I praise you, for I am wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works.”

1 Samuel 7 “Do not look on his appearance… for the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Prayer: O, Lord let me see as you see. Let me see through your eyes. Help me to see my true beauty and the beauty of those around me. Let me see myself and others as you see us. Help my heart to be one with yours so that it will reflect your perfect beauty in this world. Amen

Spotlight: A great place to find your inner beauty is Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine, 21281 Chardon Rd., Euclid, Ohio 44117. It is a place of prayer that fosters your conversation with God. A quiet place to see how the Lord sees you. It is a place to see all of us to see each other as God sees us. Come and attend our Lourdes novena from February 3rd up to and including February 11th. Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM with Mass following. Also, come to our Sunday, February 5th French Toast Breakfast held from after the 8:00 AM Mass until 11:30 AM.

The magic of generosity

by Ralph Marston

Do you want to immediately add richness to your life? Do it with generosity.

No one is going to stop you or disparage you when you live and act with sincere generosity toward others. Generosity gives you free rein to make a positive and meaningful difference.

You don’t need money or material wealth to be generous. You can be generous with your time, your attention, your opinion, your knowledge and expertise.

Today you’ll have opportunities to give comfort, encouragement, joy, reassurance, assistance and wisdom. Generously embrace those opportunities, and transform them into living goodness.

Generosity gives you the power to be a positive force in the world. Feel that power, and lovingly put it to use.

One act of generosity enriches the lives of at least two people, and often many, many more. Spread the magic of your own generosity everywhere you go.

Air of possibility

by Ralph Marston

Let each failure lead you toward success. Let each weakness propel you into strength.

From every disappointment, gather more determination. Seize the opportunity when things go wrong to learn how you can do it right.

Find new wisdom, understanding, and value in those who disagree with you. Discover what’s truly meaningful to you each time you feel frustration.

Take what others would discard and turn it into gold. Step out into a gray, dreary day and make it the brightest, most successful one yet.

Remind yourself over and over again that what matters is never what you’ve been dealt. You can handle any turn of events when you’re willing to give your best.

Whatever comes your way today is loaded with good fortune. Breathe in the sweet, fresh air of possibility, and do the work to make that fortune yours.

Actual priorities

by Ralph Marston

Your priorities are not what you say they are, or what you merely think they should be. Your priorities are what you actually do.

There are only so many hours in each day. Your priorities are demonstrated by the way you invest that time.

Are your actual priorities in line with your imagined or desired priorities? If not, you have the power, the opportunity, and a compelling reason to make a change.

Be relentlessly honest with yourself and ask yourself this question. Are you spending the moments of this day, of every day, supporting and expanding what’s most important to you?

Fulfillment is more than just giving lip service to what you care about. You have the chance, with each decision, with each moment, to create meaningful, lasting substance.

This is your life, and this is your day to focus strengths, skills and resources on all you love. Make it your actual, living priority to do so.

Every choice matters

by Ralph Marston

Reality is what it is, and wishing or pretending for it to be different accomplishes nothing. Yet what you do with reality is up to you, and can make all the difference in the world.

Your perspective, the way you see things, does not itself change anything. However it is that very perspective that inspires and enables you to make valuable, significant changes.

No matter how the situation is, you can be optimistic about it. Because you have the opportunity to do something good with it.

Past experiences and trends can provide valuable guidance for the future. Yet the future depends much more on what gets done than on what has already happened.

Every day, every action, every thought determines how the future unfolds. From the reality of what is, you can create an even better, more fulfilling reality.

Every choice matters. Today, make the choices that make your future bright.

Get great things done

by Ralph Marston

You might not feel your best today but that doesn’t prevent you from being your best. The more you give of yourself, the better you’ll feel.

Reach inside, draw upon the strength that’s always there, and take another step forward. With gratitude for all the good you’ve known and all the good you know is to come, push forward.

See the precise reality of your world just as it is, with no illusions. And see within that reality opportunities, possibilities, hope, and a multitude of reasons to move forward.

You don’t have to deceive yourself in order to be optimistic. You just have to apply yourself, and experience the power of your own intention as it drives your efforts.

You don’t have to land yourself in the perfect situation in order to achieve. You just have to be able to work with commitment and persistence, with whatever you have.

Don’t waste another day with excuses, procrastination, self-pity or doubt. Get up, get moving, get focused and get a lot of great things done.

November - Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine

Faith Page Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine
November 4, 2016

If you have been shopping lately you will hear “the sounds of Christmas” playing in the background and see signs reminding us of the “countdown to Christmas.” While that is fun, and you might find yourself humming “Jingle Bell Rock,” how about just enjoying the present moment? We have countdowns all around us for everything, sports seasons, championship runs, election results. You name it we have it, but let’s put everything in perspective. We look up and see the beautiful leaves. Some of us look forward to giving thanks for the gifts God has given. Yes, some of us are making plans to get ready for Christmas, but let’s focus on the countdown to the birth of Christ. Perhaps if we make that our priority life might slow down around us and all those other countdowns won’t mean as much. Yes, of course some are important, but compare those material things with Christ. Which one is really, more important?

Ecclesiastes 3:1,11-14 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. God has made everything beautiful in its time, also he has put eternity into man’s mind… I know that there is nothing better for them to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live… I know that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added or taken from it.

Lord, master of the universe, you have made all of nature. You have made all of us to live and show your love. Help us to stay in the moment for you are found there. Help us to go forward with the plans that you have us.

Come and visit Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine at 21281 Chardon Rd, Euclid, Ohio. See the beautiful nature that God has given us. Share some fellowship on Sundays, Nov. 6th, Dec. 4th., Feb.5th and March 5th for 8:00 AM mass followed by a French Toast Breakfast, tickets $5 with a mini craft fair.

Follow through on inspiration

by Ralph Marston

It’s good to be inspired, but merely being inspired is not enough. Get inspired, and then follow through on that inspiration.

Inspiration without action is wasted. Not only that, but with no action the inspiration itself soon turns sour.

Don’t waste the inspiration and don’t waste the opportunity. Do the hard work, take the difficult actions, meet the challenges with inspired effort.

Let inspiration lead you to take the first step. Keep renewing and refreshing that inspiration as you persist through every effort.

When you add action to inspiration, you get even more inspiration. And, you get results.

Get yourself inspired, then do something with that inspiration by acting on it. Discover how very far your inspired effort will take you.
