Positive feelings

by Ralph Marston

The way you felt up until this minute is no longer relevant. What matters now is not how you used to feel, but how you choose to feel.

If you’ve felt weary or listless, discouraged or distracted, that’s all over. You’ve just arrived at the opportunity to feel energetic and enthusiastic, purposeful and focused.

There’s never any reason to complain about how bad you feel. Because you can always choose how good to feel.

Pick a feeling that will serve you well, and then fill yourself with that feeling. Positive feelings are just as accessible and realistic as negative ones, plus they’re a whole lot more fun and productive.

Feel empowered, feel creative, feel motivated and eager to take action. Instead of letting any outside factor get you down, let your own intentions lift you up and push you forward.

Decide now to feel creative, productive, joyful, energetic and ready to give your best to every situation. Choose positive feelings, and act so that life unfolds according to your choice.

Spotlight 12-9-15

Merry Christmas, the Savior is born.  If we have kept Advent well we will have the true Christmas spirit.  St. Nicholas is an example of someone who kept Advent very well.  We associate St. Nicholas with Santa Claus because both gave gifts at Christmas.  St. Nicholas gave gifts to those who were in need all year round.  He was a Bishop who lived in around 350.  He had been a wealthy man who gave away all his possessions.  He is most associated with Christmas because around Christmas time he would secretly give small gifts to the children.  One Christmas he threw money in a window of a family who had three daughters.  They were going to be sold into slavery because their father could not pay their dowry. With the money given by St. Nicholas the family was able to stay together.  St. Nicholas kept Advent very well and celebrated the birth of Christ by helping others.

Activate your willingness

by Ralph Marston

Don’t let life throw you off track. Do what you have decided to do.

Though the distractions entice, you don’t have to give in to them. Though the excuses promise an easy way to quit, you can roll right on past any temptation to do so.

Make a commitment, and then honor it. Set a goal, and then reach it.

Look beyond the immediate moment, and see what you can achieve. With that vision in mind, persevere through whatever comes and make the achievement yours.

Sure, there are factors and forces working against you. Don’t be one of them.

Go ahead, take the next step, and the next and the next, until you have done what you set out to do. Exercise your focus, exercise your discipline, activate your willingness to do what must be done, and enjoy all the richness you’re able to create.

Plan and then act

by Ralph Marston

Think, but don’t overthink. Consider, but don’t consider so much that you fail to take action.

Plan, prepare and strategize, but don’t stop there. Do what you have planned.

It’s not enough to think you should do it, or hope to do it, or make elaborate plans for doing it. Go beyond mere planning, take the first step, and the next step and the next, until the job is done.

Thinking things through is great, up to a point. After a certain point, thinking becomes a substitute for action or even worse, an excuse for not taking action.

Though you may be highly skilled at anticipating what will happen, you never know for sure until you actually do it. So give some thought to it, then do it.

Yes, it’s fun to make big plans. Never forget, though, what’s even more fun is to see those plans come to life through your actions.

Many people come to visit Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine at 21281 Chardon Rd. and everyone is welcome.  Did anyone ever wonder who it is who makes the Shrine available to the public?  The people who both live at the Shrine and allow the public to visit and worship here are the Sisters of the Most Holy Trinity.  This group of women who pray for all who come here belong to a Catholic Order of Women Religious that was founded in 1762 in Italy.  The Sisters first came to the United States in 1920 as missionaries to teach children.  They established and staffed schools so that children could learn not only the normal curriculum, but also learn about God.  The most important work of the Sisters was to become an extension of the family to help these young people.  Eventually the Sisters needed a place to call home so they settled at the Shrine.  Today the Sisters still teach children and bring people of all ages to the Lord especially at the Shrine.  Do come and visit the Sisters and join them in their work.

Your unique purpose

by Ralph Marston

If you’re not motivated enough to take action, you’re not motivated enough. If you’re not inspired enough to get up and get busy, find yourself some more inspiration.

There’s something that will compel you to jump up each morning and get things done. There’s some dream, some goal, some desire, something you want to do with life, that will push you to take whatever action must be taken.

The easy choice is to deny that you have a driving purpose. The easy choice is to pretend that life is conspiring to prevent you from following your dreams.

But that easy choice brings regret rather than fulfillment. You, and your unique purpose, deserve more.

You deserve to feel the passion that comes from investing yourself in what you care about. You deserve to experience the ups and downs, the frustrations and satisfactions of your own focused efforts and the fruits of those efforts.

So reach deep inside, and admit to yourself what you care about the most, and what you really, truly want to do with this day. Then stand up right now and go for it.

Prayer of the Day 11-23-15

Lord of the harvest inspire young women and men to say yes to your invitation to serve you.  Help these young people to recognize that following your call will change the world.  Bless all that give of themselves for others.  We ask this as we ask all things in God’s name. Amen
